Summary Statement:  The Student Council is open to students in 6th, 7th, and 8th grade (representatives) or 7th and 8th grade (officers).  Student participation is based on elections (for representatives and officers).  Student extracurricular/athletic eligibility standards apply.  Students interested in participating should see Mrs. Bender.

 

NBMS STUDENT COUNCIL OFFICER ELECTIONS

 Campaign runs from Tuesday, October 31st through Tuesday, November 7th 

 

Eligibility Requirements:  You are NOT able to run unless you meet the following…

 

1.     You are in 7th or 8th grade. 

2.     All of your grades are a C or higher. 

3.     You’ve had NO Behavior issues.  That is…. No ASD, ISS, or OSS this school year. 

4.     You demonstrate good character traits. 

5.     You show great leadership abilities. 

6.     You are committed to attending future Student Council activities. 

7.     Your Proof of Eligibility handout must be turned in to Mrs. Bender no later than Tuesday, October 31st at 8:00am (prior to hanging posters). 

 

Officer Positions & Job Responsibilities:  Must run alone.  No running mates/teams.

 

President- (8th graders only) 

  • Responsible for meeting with the Advisor and secretary to prepare agendas prior to each student council meeting. 
  • Presides at meetings
  • Organizes and attends Student Council activities
  • May be called on to give announcements to the student body 

Vice President-  

  • Acts in the absence of the President
  • Takes attendance at each Student Council meeting
  • Assists with organizing and attends Student Council activities
  • May be called on to give announcements to the student body 

Secretary- 

  • Keeps accurate minutes of Student Council meetings
  • Meets with the Advisor and President prior to each meeting to plan an agenda
  • Keeps a master calendar of and attends Student Council activities
  • Assists with organizing and attends Student Council activities
  • Writes thank you notes and letters 

Treasurer- 

  • Keeps tract expenditures and sales
  • Attends Student Council meetings prepared to give money updates to the Council
  • Assists with organizing and attends Student Council activities
  • Prepares money for deposit. 

 

Campaign RULES:  If you do NOT follow the rules you will be disqualified. 

  1. Posters may be hung beginning Tuesday, October 31st (NOT BEFORE)
  2. Posters must be taken down by 3:30 on Tuesday, November 7th.
  3. 7th grade Campaign speeches will be videoed on Wednesday, November 1st.
  4. 8th grade Campaign speeches will be videoed on Thursday, November 2nd.
  5. Campaign Speeches will be shown to the school on Monday or Tuesday, November 6th or 7th.
  6. Campaign Speeches MUST be written and approved by Mrs. Bender prior to your video date.  They are to be NO longer than 3 minutes.  You will have only 2 attempts at videoing your speech. (Practice at home prior to your video date) You are NOT allowed to make any negative comments about those running against you. You must film here at school (you can not make your video at home and bring in). 
  7. NO BRIBES!!! No candy, pencils, treat, etc. may be passed out.
  8. Voting will take place during morning homeroom on Tuesday, November 7th (Nat’l Election Day)
