8th Graders: High School Controlled Enrollment
Posted On:
Sunday, March 30, 2014

Attention 8th Graders & Parents:

Controlled Enrollment allows students to enroll in a specialized course of study offered at a high school other than the student’s home district. Current 8th graders can apply for the following specialized programs for the 2014-15 school year:

  • Advanced Construction Technologies Initiative – Jacksonville High School
  • Advanced/Applied Technologies Initiative – Northside High School
  • Advanced Automotive/Transportation Technologies Initiative – Southwest High School
  • Air Force Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps (AFJROTC) – Northside High School

These are the ONLY specialized programs for which current 8th graders can apply.  All other specialized programs are available for application beginning in the students’ 10th and 11th grade years. As always, no students will be considered for controlled enrollment for only their 12th grade year.

You will find an electronic copy of the Controlled Enrollment Application on the Onslow County Schools website at, under Quick links, OCS Secondary Course of Study, or under the High School Registration link on the New Bridge Middle School Website.  Please make a note of the due date:

Controlled Enrollment applications will be accepted through Student Services at OCS Board of Education until Friday, May 16, 2014. All applications are due to the Student Services Department at the Central Office.

Controlled Enrollment information may be found in the Onslow County Schools Secondary Course of Study Guide, which your student received in March, beginning on page 90. Please note, students should proceed with course selection for their home district high school. Once a student is accepted into a controlled enrollment program a representative from the new high school will ensure that the student is registered for the appropriate courses. Please see page 92 in the Onslow County Schools Secondary Course of Study Guide for detailed application instructions.

If you have any questions, please email Mrs. Bender, Counselor at NBMS, at or call the Student Services Department at Onslow County Schools Board of Education at 910-455-2211 ext. 20419.
