During the 2013-14 school year, several language arts classes read Lois Lowry’s, The Giver. The novel was the 1994 Newbery Medal Winner, an award by the Association for Library Service to Children for the author of the most distinguished contribution to American literature for children.
Novel Summary: Twelve-year-old Jonas performs well in the impressively ordered society that the Elders have developed. But when he is selected to be the new "Receiver," Jonas begins to unravel the truth that underlies his world.
On Tuesday, August 19, 2014, Mrs. Koonce and Mrs. Campbell (New Bridge language arts teachers) will be at Carmike Cinema 16 (behind the mall) for the 1:50 pm showing of The Giver. With parental approval, NBMS students are invited to attend this viewing.
