The New Bridge Bears are victorious!  On Friday, March 1, 2013 and Saturday, March 2, 2013, students from New Bridge Middle School competed in the Carolina Middle School Science Bowl, a regional bracket of the U.S. Department of Energy's National Science Bowl.  Mrs. Baile led two science teams consisting of Maddox B., Christian C., Hannah D., Jasmine J., Justin P., Alli I., Braden C., Kanmani A., Shelby L., and Jordan R.  The teams travelled to the North Carolina Museum of Natural Sciences in Raleigh to take on other middle school teams from North Carolina and South Carolina.  The competition consisted of the Electric Battery Car Competition and the Science Bowl Competition.

After weeks of designing and constructing their vehicles, the NBMS teams put their engineering skills and battery technology knowledge to the test.  New Bridge took 1st place in the student designed lithium battery car competition!   The bears lithium ion powered car raced at the top speed down the 20-meter track.

In the quiz bowl contest, students answered science-related questions regarding biology, chemistry, Earth science, physics, astronomy and mathematics.  The two NBMS teams placed 5th and 6th overall in the quiz bowl competition.

Support for the National Science Bowl includes the highest levels of U.S. government.  In 2012, Energy Secretary Steven Chu said, "Through the National Science Bowl, we are challenging the next generation to forge new advances in science and math and ensure that America stays competitive in a rapidly advancing world."
